Description of the
liturgical stole

My fabrics are designed according to customer request. Colors, fiber type and weight, and weave structure are combined to produce a pleasing cloth. The fabric is then woven on a Harrisville floor loom. The stole is constructed with a lining and an interlining, and is sewn by hand. The only machine stitching is done at the center back seam.
Price: $225

Stoles can be woven in any color you wish although colors are usually selected based on the standard colors that represent different aspects of the Standard Liturgical Calendar:

General colors of the Church Year that influence the design of a liturgical stole
Advent (purple)
Christmas to Epiphany (12 days of Christmas) (white)
Epiphany to Ash Wednesday (green)
Lent (40 days before Easter) (purple)
Easter to Pentecost (white)
Pentecost Sunday (red)
Pentecost Season (Ordinary Time) (green)
Saints Days and other occasions of celebration such as weddings, funerals, installations, ordinations (red/white)

Pentecost: the fabric above is a recent commision. It incorporates a dark, cool gray weft and hot, vibrant scarlets and orange. This pattern uses a very long complex twill repeat.

Pentecost: Stole celebrating Pentecost. Red, orange and yellow colors evoke the Holy Spirit's tongues of flame.

green twill vertical Much of the church year is referred to as "Ordinary Time" and green is a commonly seen color in vestments and other items in worship.

Detail of a randomly sleyed green striped cotton twill with hints of turquoise, navy and wheat.

Another swatch that incorporates dramatic contrasts in weave structure that emphasize pattern and design.

Contrast in scale within weave structures is used to create visual interest.

Intricate weave structures, such as this convey tradition and timeless design qualities.
